Retrospective Tasting of Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

(Lunch will be included)

SOLD OUT!

If you like cabernet you are bound to ask yourself at some point….how long is this wine really going to last? It is a complex question that really only has one solution, start pulling corks on some aged bottles. Groth invites it’s wine club members to an exclusive look at its long-lived Reserve Cabernet’s. The history of this particular wine from Groth starts in 1982. Then winemaker, Nils Venge, approached Dennis and Judy Groth for the permission to make a single vineyard Cabernet from their Oakcross Vineyard out of ‘Block 1.’ He was familiar with the high quality of cab coming out of this spot after working next door at Villa Mount Eden. Neighbor, Justin Meyer from Franciscan and Silver Oak, had also given him the heads up. Dennis and Judy said no until he convinced them it was a good idea the following year. Since that 1983 effort we’ve made a wine from the Reserve Vineyard only in years the family and winemaking team agree is of Reserve Quality. In 2000 current winemaker, Michael Weis, made the difficult decision to replant the 30 year old vineyard. This gave him the perfect opportunity to make decisions on the right clones and root stock for this 21 acre vineyard.

The rocky, well drained soils provide Michael with elegant and complex cabernet that he blends with merlot. Come and taste with Michael Weis in this vertical blind tasting. He’ll be presenting his uniquely qualified opinion on why Groth Reserve Cabernet ages so well.

$150 per person, Limit 10 people
