Associate Winemaker


 

After completing his degree in Agriculture Science with an emphasis in Enology and viticulture at Fresno State, Eric Fidel began his wine career at Villa Mt Eden in Oakville in 1984 as a harvest worker. He went on to work at Bouchaine Vineyards in Carneros for eleven years as Assistant Winemaker. Eric returned to Oakville and joined Groth Vineyards & Winery as Assistant Winemaker in 1998. He was promoted to Associate Winemaker in 2017. 

Eric oversees the winemaking process from grape to bottle. He directs the Groth cellar crew through fermentations, barrel aging, blending and bottling. Constantly keeping up with new innovations in the wine industry, he has ongoing experiments in vinification, yeast strains and barrel selections. He works closely with Michael Weis, Cameron Parry, and vineyard manager Ben Benson to make wines that are the best reflection of both vintage and vineyard.

Also a musician, Eric is keen to note the similarities of his two passions.  “Music and wine are a lot alike; I believe that each requires a respect of place and heritage, and both must possess balance in order to be truly great.”
